The Heritage Project Begins

Happy New Year from The Big House!

Dry January is tough, but fortunately, there’s nothing dry about The Big House this month. Excitingly, the Heritage Project kicked off last week. This is an engaging exploration of untold stories to be discovered and shared by our members.

15 of our young people have started researching archives to discover and share the histories of minorities in the UK. They’ll eventually launch The Big Mouth platform with podcasts in the Autumn. The podcasts will explore heritage, especially oral histories that document social narratives that reflect diversity. Once they have been created, these stories will be shared across the UK as educational resources to celebrate the ethnically diverse heritage that represents the UK.

Our member’s first mission was at the London Met University’s inspirational Federation of Worker Writers and Community Publishers Collection. This was a brilliant opportunity and led to a deep dive into their archives. Predominantly, historical chairs, and other random stories – such as 1930 sailers, and children’s oral tapes!

Finally, stay tuned for exciting workshops with incredible guests, such as the talented George the Poet, The British Library, Getty Images and The Museum of London.
