THE
GET
IN

“It brought me out of my comfort zone, it has been a really really positive thing for me, I really didn’t expect this to make the difference it has and to get me out of bed in the morning and to have a routine and it’s just been great”.

‘The Get In’ is a term used in professional shows.

It’s the day the set, music, lights, actors and directors all finally gain access to the space they will be performing in. It’s the exciting opening of a new door. And our Get In is no different.

THE GET IN is an 8-day series of workshops aimed at 16-20 year olds who are interested in developing their creativity, or just really want to try something new!

Why join The Get In?

Each workshop day will be a little bit different and offer you the chance to gain skills in drama, music production, writing and movement. It is free to attend, you will also get daily expenses to make sure you can get here and get lunch, making money no obstacle.

Alongside the 8 workshop days, you’ll receive an invite to our Big Supper, where you can share dinner and chats with our members. We sometimes have special guests from the industry attending so it can be a great way to gain an insight into the creative scene whilst enjoying a tasty meal.

“Through conversations I had with the mentors, its given me more of a broad mind on how you can still be involved in the acting industry without performing yourself. Lots of people think you’ve just got drama and camera people but there’s people there doing lots of different roles like finance and recruitment and all sorts.”

After The Get In?

Once you’ve finished the project, you will have access to our other opportunities, whether that be taking part in one of our productions, attending a creative masterclass or getting access to long-term mentoring to support you on your journey in education, training or employment.

Sounds like the
project for you?

We take referrals via two main routes. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Why not refer yourself?
If you think this sounds right for you, then we would love to hear from you! You can email us, call us, reach us on social media whatever suits you best. Or, if you know a current member, get them to put you in touch too and we can arrange a time for cuppa and a chat.

  • Get someone to refer you, or refer a young person you know…
We take referrals from various professionals such as Personal Advisors, Social Workers, Youth Workers and Access Coordinators. If we receive an email from a professional regarding a young person who may be interested in one of our projects, we will send them a referral form to complete and return to us which includes contact details for the young person, and again, we’ll get a cuppa tea in the diary and have a chat about what we do and what they might be interested in.

At The Big House we support young people who have experience of the care system or at risk of being marginalised.
